Terms of Service

Last updated: 26 August 2026

In plain English. Use the app to learn, don't attack it or resell it, and understand that an automatic handwriting grader is sometimes wrong. Subscriptions are billed by Apple and you cancel them in your iPhone settings.

These terms are an agreement between you and Fidel Scribe ("we", "us"), covering your use of the Fidel Scribe app and this website. You can reach us at fidelscribe@gmail.com. By using the app you accept these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Who can use it

Anyone may use Fidel Scribe. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use it with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf. Only an adult may buy a subscription.

2. Your account

An account is optional — the app works as a guest. If you do sign in, keep access to your Apple ID secure; anything done through your account is treated as done by you. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account.

3. What's free and what's paid

The Fidel chart, the guided courses, the quizzes and the numbers section are free, and we intend to keep them free. Everyone gets a limited number of handwriting checks to try. Fidel Scribe Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription that makes the handwriting checks unlimited and adds the write-a-word drill and progress statistics.

Jebena — the beans you earn by practising — is not money. It can only be earned inside the app, cannot be bought, exchanged for cash, or transferred to anyone else, and has no value outside Fidel Scribe. We may adjust balances to correct an error or to deal with abuse.

4. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

If we ever change the price, we will tell you in advance and the change will only apply to renewals after that notice.

5. Fair use of the handwriting grader

Each handwriting check costs us real computation, so automated, scripted, or bulk use of the grading feature is not permitted, and we may rate-limit or suspend accounts that do it. "Unlimited" in Fidel Scribe Premium means unlimited ordinary personal study, not machine-driven volume.

6. Accuracy — please read

Fidel Scribe grades handwriting with machine-learning models, and they are not always right. A correctly written character is sometimes marked wrong, and the app is not a substitute for a teacher, a qualification, or professional tuition. The learning content is provided for educational purposes and we make no guarantee of fluency or of any particular result. If a grade looks wrong, please flag it — that's how it gets better.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Found a security flaw? Please report it to the address below rather than exploiting it — we welcome that and will not pursue good-faith reports.

8. Our content and yours

The app, its design, its courses, and its models belong to us or our licensors, and you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them for your own learning. Photographs in the app that come from Wikimedia Commons remain under their own Creative Commons licences and are credited in the app.

Your handwriting stays yours. By flagging a drawing you give us permission to store and use that drawing to evaluate and improve the recognition models.

9. Availability

We aim to keep the app running but can't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Grading needs an internet connection and a working connection to our model host. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features; if we ever discontinue a paid feature during a subscription period, contact us and we'll sort it out fairly.

10. Ending these terms

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken. If we terminate your account without cause while you hold a paid subscription, you may seek a pro-rata refund through Apple.

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law. Subject to that, the app is provided "as is", and our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the date at the top will change, and continued use after a material change means you accept it. If you don't accept a change, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of your own country.

14. Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app. Apple has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the Apple Standard End User Licence Agreement, which applies in addition to these terms.
